HOW IS DATA STORED IN A HARD DISK?
Data is broken down into many pieces of 1 and 0 and is written in many different places all over the Hard Disk. This is why we need from time to time some #Defrag, in order to reunite all pieces around in one single meaningful piece of information. Nevertheless, how exactly is data stored in a Hard Disk?
Hard Disk has platters -kind of circular disks made of non-magnetic material like aluminum, glass, or ceramic, coated with a magnetic material layer thin as 10-20nm. Those platters contain tracks and sectors. The former are concentric paths while the latter ar pie-shaped wedges of tracks. #Data is stored in form of magnetic fields.
